Foam Molders

Polyurethane Foam Supplier

Foam Molders & Specialties has supplied custom polyurethane foam parts from Cerritos, California for more than 50 years. Our founder’s experience with polyurethanes dates back to the 1950s, and since 1969 we’ve grown from a single 1,000 sq. ft. shop into a multi-building operation serving manufacturers across the United States — including the automotive industry since 1995. Whether you need fabricated PU foam components, die-cut parts, or specialty molded pieces, we deliver to specification, on time, defect-free.

Polyurethane Foam Products We Supply

  • Fabricated PU foam parts — cut, shaped, and assembled foam components produced to your drawings, from simple fabricated parts to precision-intensive work. Learn more about our foam fabrication services.
  • Custom molded polyurethanespecialty molding for components that require molded-in geometry rather than cut-and-glue construction.
  • Foam packaging and protective inserts — polyurethane foam packing materials that protect products in transit.
  • Finished and painted foam components — in-house custom painting and finishing for parts that ship display-ready.

Every order passes through our Quality Control department, where tolerances are checked and confirmed at final inspection before parts ship.

Understanding Polyurethane Foam: A Buyer’s Guide

Open-cell vs. closed-cell polyurethane

Open-cell PU foam has interconnected cells that make it soft, flexible, and compressible — the right choice for cushioning, sound absorption, filtration, and packaging inserts that must conform to a product’s shape. Closed-cell foam traps gas in sealed cells, making it firmer, more buoyant, and more resistant to moisture — suited to gaskets, flotation, insulation, and structural applications. Most cushioning and protective-packaging applications our customers bring us call for open-cell polyurethane; the right answer depends on the load, environment, and life cycle your part will see.

Polyether vs. polyester polyurethane

Polyether PU resists moisture and microbial attack and stays flexible over time — the workhorse for cushioning and general fabrication. Polyester PU offers finer, more uniform cells, higher tensile strength, and better resistance to oils and solvents — often specified for gasketing, lamination, and technical applications. If your drawing doesn’t specify, we can help you select the chemistry that fits the application.

Density and firmness (ILD): what the numbers mean

Polyurethane foam is specified primarily by density (weight per cubic foot — a measure of material content and durability) and ILD/IFD (indentation load deflection — a measure of firmness). The two are independent: a high-density foam can be soft, and a low-density foam can be firm. Density drives longevity and fatigue resistance; ILD drives feel and support. Send us your application details or an existing sample and we’ll match or recommend the right grade — or request our current material list for specifics.

How custom PU parts are made

Depending on geometry and volume, polyurethane parts are produced by cutting and fabricating from stock (fast, economical, ideal for prototypes through mid-volume), die-cutting (repeatable flat parts at volume), or molding (complex three-dimensional shapes with molded-in features). Our turn-key approach covers the process end to end — from material selection through fabrication, finishing, inspection, and delivery.

Industries We Serve

For over five decades, manufacturers have trusted Foam Molders & Specialties for polyurethane components — with deep experience in automotive (since 1995), packaging, and industrial applications. From one-off prototypes to production runs, no job is too small or too big.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of polyurethane foam do you supply?

Open-cell and closed-cell polyurethane in fabricated, die-cut, and molded forms — as custom parts produced to your specification rather than commodity sheet sales. Request our material list for currently stocked grades.

Do you have minimum order quantities?

We quote each project individually — from prototypes to production volume. Contact us with your quantities and we’ll confirm.

Can you match a foam sample?

Yes — send us an existing part or sample and our team will identify the material and match or recommend an equivalent grade.

Do you ship outside California?

Yes. We’re based in Cerritos, CA and ship nationwide.

What quality checks do parts go through?

Every order is verified by our Quality Control department, with tolerances checked and confirmed at final inspection before shipment — in line with our policy of on-time, defect-free delivery.

Can you handle finishing as well as fabrication?

Yes — custom painting and finishing are done in-house, so parts arrive ready to use or display.

Send us your drawing, sample, or application description. Our team will confirm material selection, review tolerances, and return a quote.
