AS9100-Certified Foam Packaging & Thermoforming for Aerospace

Foam Protection Engineered for Aerospace Programs

When flight hardware moves — between buildings, suppliers, test stands or continents — the foam around it is not packaging. It is part of your quality system. Foam Molders & Specialties designs and manufactures custom foam protection, kitting solutions and vacuum-formed components for aerospace programs from our 55,000 sq ft facility in Cerritos, California, in the heart of the Southern California aerospace corridor. We are AS9100 Rev D and ISO 9001:2015 certified and have been manufacturing here since 1971.

Send us the part — we’ll send back the plan. Drawings, CAD or a photo of the hardware: we’ll respond with material recommendations, an approach and pricing, produced under an AS9100 quality system. Request a Quote.

What our AS9100 certification means for your program

AS9100 Rev D certification means our quality management system is audited to the aerospace standard — documented processes, controlled changes, traceability, and structured corrective action. Practically, it means your supplier-quality team can approve us without inventing a workaround, your parts are produced under a system built for aerospace scrutiny, and the paperwork your program requires exists because our process created it — not because someone reconstructed it afterward.

Certificates are available for your supplier file, and we welcome customer audits.

What We Build for Aerospace

  • Protective packaging and transit case inserts — engineered foam cavities for avionics, LRUs, instruments and flight hardware, in shipping cases, ATA-style cases and crates
  • Kitting trays and tool control foam — shadowed, color-contrasted foam that makes a missing tool or part visible at a glance; a direct aid to FOD prevention programs
  • Vacuum-formed and pressure-formed components — trays, covers, housings and interior components formed from engineering thermoplastics, trimmed and finished in-house
  • Line-side dunnage and interplant handling — reusable foam protection that moves parts between operations without damage or debris
  • Gaskets, seals and padding — die-cut and fabricated from the material your specification calls for

Materials selected for the mission

We fabricate open- and closed-cell polyurethane, cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), EVA and reticulated foams, and we help your engineers select the grade that matches the load, the environment and the program’s requirements. Where an application calls for specialty grades — such as anti-static materials for electronics handling — we source and fabricate to the specification.

One supplier from tooling to finished part

Design assistance, tooling, prototyping, fabrication, forming, painting and assembly all happen in our own facility. For aerospace buyers that means one supplier to qualify, one quality system covering the whole part, and prototype iterations measured in days — we are a short drive from the aerospace communities of Long Beach, El Segundo, Anaheim and Irvine, and your engineers are welcome on our floor.

Frequently asked questions

Are you AS9100 certified?

Yes — AS9100 Rev D, alongside ISO 9001:2015, with ISO/TS 16949 compliance. Certificates are available on request for your supplier qualification file.

Do you make tool control and FOD prevention foam?

Yes. We fabricate shadowed kitting and tool control foam with contrasting layers, cut to your tool list, so anything missing is visible immediately.

Can you work from our drawings and CAD files?

Yes — send STEP, IGES, DXF or PDF drawings. We can also reverse-engineer from a sample part where no drawing exists, and produce prototypes for approval before production.

How do we qualify FMS as a supplier?

Request our certificates through our contact form or the fabrication line at (800) 378-9085, and send any supplier survey your program uses — we complete them routinely. Customer audits are welcome.
